At the Alumni art exhibit I looked at "Pinchot Family's Long Pool at Grey Towers National Historic Site" by Peter Otis who graduated with the class of 1973. The first thing i noticed when looking at this picture was the deepness of the colors. The blues and greens were heavily saturated and there was a lot of contrast in the picture which was ultimately caught my attention at first glance when looking at it. This picture also reminds me of a place that I went to when I was in Spain which made it feel familiar to me which I enjoyed.
My eye was led through this picture by the beautiful pool which is strategically placed in the center of the photo. The pool leads you to notice the building in the back immediately which makes you think that the building has significant meaning. The red door in the center of the photo also makes you think that the building is important.
The pool also leads my eye to the worn out tracks on either side of the pool. From these walking paths you can tell that this is a spot that is well visited and that a lot of people go to his location to admire its beauty. The building and pool itself look like something out of a fairytale. It was surprising to me that this photo was taken in PA. It looks as though it was taken in a very wooded, unpopulated location.
I thoroughly enjoy this photo because of its dramatic color and the calmness that is brought upon me when looking at it. The photo seems very peaceful and the blues and greens make for a very tranquil color pallet. I think that the photographer wanted this sense of peace when he we taking this photo. I also really like the way this photo was printed and framed. The length of the print adds to how dramatic the pool looks in length.
